Hi, long time no see:)
I was quite busy last month because of the exams and so on. And, sadly, the ending of this semester is not finished yet. I’m still working on my comic for Strichnin – “das kleine Ich” (in English, the little me, maybe…). At this moment I have still 6 pages to draw (of 16 pages).
So now it’s not the time to make a BIG update. Since I’ve posted nothing for almost a month. I’ll just show you the following as an appetizer.
It’s the painting process of my biggest self-portrait. You know that I had drawn self-portraits everyday for a month. The reason of doing that was generally this portrait, which was the semester-work for one of my courses. The assignment was painting ourselves on a relatively big canvas (bigger as 30cm x 40cm). And we got almost everyone a portrait photo in photo studio to assist the paiting. The canvas I bought was 80cm x 100cm. I decided to draw much bigger as the professor asked for, because I’ve got a lot of fun by drawing big picture on the big cubes, and that was quite differently interesting to paint and to see it.
I have to say the final portrait of me was not 100% alike. I think that was not my aim of drawing it. I think the thing that interested me most in this process was to observe and to understand the object. Sometimes we draw the things just out of our head without seeing it. It might not work. The structure, the colors…when you see them on your paper, you know that there’s something wrong, but you don’t know why. Maybe because you’ve never looked at them in reality carefully. That’s the reason your brain won’t accept it. Of course, if you WANT to make a disharmony ON PURPOSE, or you WANT just deform your objects ON PURPOSE, that will be another topic. Actually I am also not a realistic drawer, but I think learning to observe the objects is a very good thing. You can then be more free to draw things as you will, whether you’d like to draw them realistic or not.
Okay, I’ve said, I’m not in the mood to write a lot but actually I’ve already written a lot (judging with my standard), so now, just have a look at the pictures:) I think my idea behind the picture is there quite easy to find out.
